Scholarship for Nursing Practice
Health care is an evolving industry; there are advances every day in which every health care worker must stay current in his or her practice. The American Nurses Association (2010) reports that the registered nurse must integrate, “evidence and research findings into practice,” (pg. 11). The American Nurses Association further requires every registered nurse to not only utilize the evidenced based research in their practice but also help educate their fellow coworkers and partners in health care on the current recommendations of practice. Ferris State University also requires the incorporation of evidence based practice into their nursing program. The outcome of scholarship for nursing practice calls for every BSN nurse to, “assimilate current evidence into the practice of nursing,” (Ferris State University, n.d.). Throughout this program I have learned to navigate nursing databases in search of the most current evidenced based practice for my projects. My papers on Violence in the Healthcare Workplace, Urinary Catheters: Antimicrobial or Silicone, and Prophylactic Antibiotics versus Non-Pharmacological Interventions for UTI Reduction and Prevention showcase my use of current evidenced based research. I not only conducted this research to fulfill my requirements of the program, but I have also implemented my findings into my present nursing practice.
Each of my papers listed below used nursing research to help correlate facts related to each topic. I have learned the importance of primary research, along with the importance of current research. It is my goal to always strive to obtain research that is no more than five years old and also peer reviewed. I have learned the difference between research articles and review articles; research articles are primary articles in which actual research was conducted per the author. In comparison, review articles are composed of a collaboration of information, in which the author has reviewed from a variety of sources. Throughout this program, with the requirement of research utilization I have meet Ferris’s scholarship of nursing practice’s outcome.
