Health Care Environment
One of the most rewarding but
challenging aspects of health care is the variety of environments in which it
takes place. As a nurse, regardless of
the situation, it is important to provide and advocate for best practice to
ensure each individual receives the best care possible. Ferris State University’s outcome of health
care environment requires each BSN nurse to, “advocate for healthcare across
the continuum of health care environments,” (Ferris State University,
n.d.). Throughout my BSN education, I
have always elicited that I strive to advocate for best practice, regardless of
environments. I have listed below three
papers in which I demonstrate that I have met FSU’s requirement.
The first paper, Homeless Elderly Health Disparities, highlights various health disparities in the homeless elderly populations. This is a difficult genre of people that are often lost in the health care world due to decreased access to follow-up care. I see this population every day due to working in the Emergency Department. As a result of my BSN education, I am better able to provide caring, compassionate, holistic care to this group.
My second paper, Nursing’s Role in Population Based Issues, describes another nursing role in which their main goal is advocating for continued health care across the health care environment, community nursing. While composing this paper, I learned of the varying roles of a community health nurse and ways in which they affect our communities. This paper encouraged me to change my nursing practice, to promote better follow-up care to my patients and provide them with better resources when discharged. In my present setting, I am much more aware of the resources available for my patients and encourage my patients to seek further community assistance.
Chlamydia: A Growing Epidemic in Kent County, MI, further elicits how I have met FSU’s health care environment outcome. With this paper, my group and I researched the prevalence of Chlamydia in this particular community and developed an action plan to help counter the disease. By assessing the health care environment and recognizing the present population’s risk factors, I am able to further prove my work in meeting FSU’s health care environment outcome.
